This is a good way to go if you are running out of USB ports on your computer. Just select it there and make sure have a midi lead connected from the MIDI OUT on the AXIOM to the MIDI IN on the audio interface. If the Audio interface has MIDI and is installed correctly the RECEIVE FROM will also show the audio interface's midi ports. But you need some sort of midi interface to do this or use the MIDI connections that you may have available on your audio interface. The Axiom works well connected via USB but it also works equally well connecting it via the 5 Pin MIDI connector. I think the 2nd Gen models were class compliant.

The 1st GEN models may need the WIndows driver. Once that is done Instrument tracks should offer the AXIOM 61 as an input source. If You Plan To Use Directlink So That Axiom Controllers Are. In the External Devices main page its normal for the Not Connected to display in the SEND TO column but it should be listed in the RECEIVE FROM column. M-Audio Axiom 25 Manual Online: windows/mac driver installation, Configuring Music Software. In External Devices you need to add a keyboard (Icon is a little keyboard symbol) In the RECEIVE FROM menu you should see it listed there and select it. Does it show up in the Windows operating system?

I look forward to learning keyboard playing with this thing and as a final surprise it turned out Guitar Center has a sale on it until the end of the month reducing the price by around $30 I believe. How are you connecting it to the computer? USB or 5 pin MIDI. One very nice feature is the playback controls for moving around the application timeline and just hitting the record button to start laying down the track. What a shame, what a hassle, what an inconvenience. By the time if I wanted a stationary semi-portable controller, I would rather get a 88 key board instead of 61 keys. Everything can easily be assigned or ‘learned’ on Logic and you are up and running in no time. But you still cant hear any sound until you set up speakers in your amplifier / computer through your MIDI/OUT connection. There is also midi assignable sliders and pots, truly everything you’ll ever need in a midi controller (for many anyway I suspect). I have to say after using it I am blown away by it, the keys feel good and are touch sensitive, the 8 pads on the top right are essentially tap pads and are great for tapping out a drum loop or triggering sound effects. This keyboard suited those requirements and more. My first requirement was it had to be USB powered because I really didn’t need another power pack hanging from the wall, the 2nd was that it had to work correctly under OS-X 10.5.2 and the last being it had to work easily without hours of configuration in Logic Express 8. Well I needed to replace my Midi keyboard and after some research and basic requirements I settled on M-Audio’s Axiom 49. As you may of noticed by now I am a big music fan and just for fun Guitar player.
